Ranting about Tiger!

This week the Rants get louder and cover more sports than ever and they go global! I am going to Rant about why Tennis should learn from their past, Tiger is untamable and why Packer fans should wake up and smell the Favre!

On Sunday Roger Federer was center court playing for a record tying title in the French Open. He did not think he would have to worry about anything but his opponent on the other side of the net, but he was mistaken. Federer was leading 2-1 in the second set when an intruder jumped over the fence and ran towards him. The intruder was covered in Barcelona soccer gear and attempted to make Federer wear a red hat. Luckily for Federer it was just a crazed, probably intoxicated fan getting his 15 minutes of fame and since this had happened to him before Roger was not too worried. Does Tennis just forget about security? Do they not remember 1993 when a lunatic jumped on the court in Germany and stabbed Monica Seles? Tennis has to wake up and provide some real security or someone is going to get hurt.

This rant may happen time and time again in this column, but it never gets old. Tiger Woods will be the best golfer that you will ever see in your life time, end of story. He did it again on Sunday coming back from four strokes back to win the Memorial by going 7 under and ending the day with a 65. He was near perfect he had two towering shots that turned into clutch birdies and he did not miss one fairway all day long. The only time Tiger will lose is when he loses not when someone else beats him, because no one can beat him. Heading into the US Open you can put your money on Tiger to roar one more time!

Packer fans its happening. You can try to look the other way when a news story hits the airwaves about your once green and gold God. It was reported on Sunday that Favre had surgery on his torn bicep tendon that bothered him so much last year. This is a sure sign he is coming back and that he will play in your division for your rival, the Minnesota Vikings. What is even scarier for Packer fans is that the Vikings seem very close to a team that could compete for the Super bowl, the only thing they were missing was (you guessed it) a quarterback. He Is not the #4 of old but he still has talent and Packer fans know that before the season even starts he will have one game circled on his calendar. Are you ready for it?

Rants For June 6th

The sports world is always giving me great material to rant about it and it looks like they have done it again. In MLB Randy Johnson notched his 300th win and Big Papi is going to lens crafters. In the NFL, Vince Young talks about playing with another team and in the golf world the Golden bear played with a Tiger.

300 is Special: Thursday Randy Johnson beat the Washington Nationals and became the 24th person in MLB to win 300 games. This will be the last time for years to come that this will happen. The game has changed so much and the pitchers do not go as deep in the game as they used to. This accolade should get more credit and hitting 300 wins just guaranteed that Randy Johnson will be going to the Hall of Fame. There will not be another pitcher that will reach this milestone in our lifetime.

Papi goes to lens crafters: It was reported on Friday that Boston’s ex-slugger David Ortiz is going to get his eyes checked out even though he thinks it has nothing to do with his slump. "I've been thinking about getting my eyes checked," he said. "My vision has always been 20-20, and I'm not feeling anything crazy, but I'm going to get it checked out." He’s right about one thing; it has nothing to do with his eyes. It’s the juice hangover. If he would just bat 8th hit .230 until the end of the year and fade away he would be much happier. Instead he is in denial and makes every excuse in the world why he is playing so badly. Turn out the lights the parties over.

Young wants out? Vince Young this week had an interview with a Baltimore radio station this week and he was quoted as saying he could play somewhere else. "If them guys don't want me to be in there, it's time for me to make a career change." The Titans would be crazy to trade this guy right now. What they should do is get him in on “slash plays” and utilize him in a Wildcat formation that other teams have adapted. This way he gets to play and can become a weapon that can be on the field at the same time with Collins if need be. This will either get him ready to play QB or raise his stock for trading purposes. Look for him at other positions this year but I doubt that will shut him up.

Golf hits perfect shot: Earlier this week before the memorial tournament there was a skins game played you may heard about. The headliners of this skins game was Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. This was a thrill to watch. There were great shots, smack talking, and it went down to the wire. Golf has to do more of this type of event. It was fun for the players and the fans and it brought back some interest to the game. Golf hit a perfect shot with this one as it brought old generations of fans with new ones to truly appreciate the game!

Rants for the NBA finals

Tonight is game one in the NBA Finals and it just seemed fitting that the rants today be centered on the event. This match up looks decent on paper and it should make for some good basketball, but I am ready to rant. Is Phil the best? It has to be the shoes and bench Jameer are the topics for today’s rants!

Sit on it Jameer: After the Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and advanced to the finals all of the talk in Orlando was that point guard Jameer Nelson might be able to play in the finals. After a few days it was announced that he would be able to play in the finals for the Magic. At first glance it would seem that this is a good thing for the Magic. He is an all-star guard and is one of the reasons that the Magic has had such a stellar season. When he played the Lakers in the regular season he was the high scorer in both of the Magic victories but my rant is simple here, sit this one out. It has been awhile without Nelson and chemistry can be tricky. When he comes back other guards will sit back and watch him work and if he does not come back into the flow easily it may cause some problems for the Magic offense. My suggestion is that if they do bring him back, let him come in off the bench and ease back into the system and in to the flow of the game. This is the finals and the Magic cannot afford to give him a game or two to get back into playing form, and even that may not be enough. If they let Nelson start the next Magic act you may see is the Magic disappearing.

The best NBA coach ever? If the Lakers win another championship it will be a record setting win for head coach Phil Jackson. He is currently tied with nine championships with Celtic legendary coach Red Auerbach. If they are able to defeat the Magic this year he would sit alone as the NBA coach with the most titles. Does this make him the best? He is a Hall of Fame coach there is no doubt about it, but the best? This may sound like a rant but I say YES! The most common argument is that he won with Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and some of the best players and teams in NBA history. So what? So did Red Auerbach. In fact Red Auerbach had arguably the best team(s) to ever play in the NBA and at the time the best player(s) with the likes of Bill Russell and Larry Bird just to name a few. The coach still has to devise a game plan or in Jackson’s case invent one and handle the teams. As far as I am concerned just for handling Dennis Rodman Phil Jackson should be named the best. If your going to say Phil is not the best of all time just come up with a better argument than he coached good players and had great teams.

It’s got to be the shoes money! It was announced and evidently big news that Orlando Magic guard Mickael Pietrus will switch his sneakers for the finals. This is because he wears Nike hyper dunk sneakers and this brand is endorsed by Kobe Bryant who just so happens to play on the other team. Here is my rant on this. Good move and it’s pretty funny! This way when Pietrus checks him on the court he can talk smack about not wearing his shoe and it actually got his name in the headlines. If I was Kobe I would have an entire shipment delivered to his house just to show that he is a good sport! Listen up Nike executives if the Magic win, the least you could do is give Pietrus his own shoe!

This week starts off with plenty to rant about. Lebron walking out on the finals and maybe the Cavs, my pick to win the NBA Championship and why the Penguins still have a shot at Lord Stanley’s cup!

Out of the playoffs and out of class: After getting ousted and upset by the Orlando Magic last week, Lebron James walked off the court without shaking hands with any members of the Magic. The next day he commented on it and said he walked out because he wants to win and he is a competitor. Not so fast Lebron, this move to me shows a lack of class. Your one of the more prominent stars in the NBA and with apologies to Charles Barkley, you are a role model. Everyone wants to win and some more than others, but that does not mean there is not room for sportsmanship. Walking out and not shaking hands is a sign of very poor sportsmanship and an insult to the Orlando Magic and what they have accomplished this season. When Cleveland stomped the Hawks and the Pistons, Lebron hung around to shake hands, but I am sure he wanted to win just as much then as he did when he faced Orlando. If your disappointed with a loss go in the locker room and smash a locker or scream at your teammates but there is no need for a public display of a lack of sportsmanship. I would hope that with all of the unneeded media scrutiny this will not happen again in the future, but that question remains unanswered and instead is replaced with another question. Where will King James play next year? Stay tuned for that answer.

For my next Magic trick: The Magic have already pulled off the impossible in the NBA playoffs this year. They have gone deeper in the playoffs than many of the experts predicted they would and upset the two favorites to win the east, Boston and Cleveland. They are not finished yet. They now have to travel to face the favorites to win it all, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have more experience, better coaching and more depth on their team. The Lakers have home court and more championship experience than the magic could hope for. It looks like everyone is counting the Magic out again and that is just the way they like it. The Magic play great defense and defense wins ballgames. The Magic played very well against the Lakers during the season and have showed they can win on the road after winning in Cleveland, arguably the hardest place to play this season. This is going to be a much better series then people think but the Magic ends here. The Lakers win this year with the full compliment of healthy bodies to compete against Howard. This playoff experience with the players and the coaching is something that cannot be ignored. The Lakers win in 6 games.

Déjà vu for Pittsburgh: Detroit handled Pittsburgh in the first two games of the Stanley cup and Osgood looked like a brick wall between the pipes for the Wings. There is an old saying in playoff sports; it’s not a series until someone loses at home. Detroit held serve and now it’s Pittsburgh’s turn to try and do the same. I am not ready to count them out yet and they showed flashes of brilliance in game two. Sid the kid has to stand up and be noticed. If that can happen this series is far from over.

Sunday May 31st Rants!

LegendZ - Top Sportsbook, Cash Bonuses

This week there was plenty to rant about. The only real problem was trying to figure out which ones I did not want to rant about! So here it is my last rant for this week and it covers everything from the NFL to college basketball to tennis if you can believe that!

Shut up about Tom Brady already: This week wherever you looked if you were a sports fan you would hear about Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady. They talked about him before he worked out and they talked about him after he threw his first pass. There was even talk about how the Patriots were now the front runners to win the Super Bowl! Enough already! Here is the truth and my first rant. It doesn’t matter what Tom Brady does until he gets hit. That is the only way we will truly know how he has returned from the injury to his knee. Don’t for a second the Patriots are ready to go all the way. If you live one mile outside of New England and you believe this, you’re a moron! This injury has happened to others in the league and not one of them rebounded the same way next year. Carson Palmer is exhibit “A”. Tom Brady has to rebound and be healthy and stay healthy and if one thing happens to them, then the Patriots could finish last in a much improved AFC East. Let this playboy take a hit and then talk to me.

Memphis Blues: This week allegations arose that a Memphis player (allegedly Derrick Rose) cheated on the SAT. This happens in college basketball and it’s not right but it’s time to hold the right people accountable. John Calipari is the villain here. Did anyone read his statement? It started off with “Although I am not at risk” what a pretentious bastard! His fingerprints may not be on this allegation and I am sure that the Kentucky brass will turn the other way in hopes that he can work wonders with the Wildcats, but look at his track record. While at Umass he went to the final four with superstar Marcus Camby. Umass had to vacate that spot that they earned in violations during that year and that is exactly what Caliparai did in Memphis. When will it stop? You can blame other avenues and other reasons why this happens in college basketball today but the bottom line is this coach is letting it happen. Memphis deserves to get punished and even lose their perfect season, but so does the coach. It’s obvious he left because he thought this would happen sooner or later. Bravo, douche bag.

French Open is for cheaters! This week tennis superstar Serena Williams came out and publicly called her opponent, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. During a point early in the round it appeared the ball went off the arm of Martinez Sanchez. This would equate to a point for Williams but it was ruled a point for Martinez Sanchez. Williams went as far as to say that Martinez Sanchez was a cheat. Here is my rant. Who Cares? Williams went on to win and she will be advancing and her opponent will be headed home. The point had nothing to do with the outcome and Martinez Sanchez could have hit the ball with her arm the entire match it would not have mattered, in fact they could have given her two rackets! Williams be happy that you moved on and let this go. The judge missed a call it happens all the time, just ask John McEnroe.

#4 to Minnesota, Manny an All-Star, and MLB Stupid!

LegendZ - Top Sportsbook, Cash Bonuses I am in a race with a friend to see who can get 100 signups first at LegendZ! they are a very reputable sportsbook, if you bet or know a friend that bets, click a banner and sign up today! Now on to the rant!

My playoff pick is at the bottom of my rant, enjoy! The Rants today will take on a new spin covering football and some baseball. My topics today include Fran Tarkenton coming out and blasting #4, Manny should be an all-star and you’re an idiot if you’re not betting on baseball!

LegendZ - Top Sportsbook, Cash BonusesSomeone in Minnesota doesn’t want Favre: This week on an Atlanta radio station former Minnesota QB Fran Tarkenton blasted Brett Favre whenever he had the chance. Here are just some of the things that he said about #4. He said that Favre "made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen". This is coming from a QB that made his share of mistakes on the field and never won the big game. He then went on to blab about loyalty and how Favre should love the Packers for everything they did for him. Here is my rant: Fran Tarkenton needs to shut up and realize the NFL is not what it used to be! He is a spokesperson for Minnesota, yet everyone in the state wants Favre in a Vikings uniform because he is a winner! No one is loyal in the NFL anymore; free agency killed that, not Brett Favre. Lastly Brett Favre would be great for football if he went purple and played against his former team. The fans would like it, the NFL would like it, and the teams would like it. The only person that would not like it seems to be Fran Tarkenton. Fran stick to selling real estate and waiting on the “That’s Incredible” reunion and stay off the radio!

LegendZ - Top Sportsbook, Cash BonusesManny should be seeing stars: This week the talk was about Manny Ramirez possibly making the all-star game. It is quite obvious since he is sitting out fifty games he won’t have the numbers, but that does not mean he won’t get the votes. Everyone around the media and the league chimed in with their response, here is my rant. Hell ya he should play! The bottom line is the voting system is a sham and a popularity contest for the fans. So with the system broken he will get voted in and the fans will go gaga over Manny. The fans like a character and this one just happens to hit homeruns the other thing that fans drool over. This will be a black eye for baseball because the fans will ignore the fact that he basically trounced the game by taking “stuff” and still vote him in. If baseball is smart they don’t allow it and take a stance, but why would they do the right thing now. Let Manny play!

LegendZ - Top Sportsbook, Cash BonusesIts’ baseball season stupid! For those of you that like to bet but don’t bet baseball and take the summer off, then good for you. For those of you that like to bet and don’t take the summer off but instead bet on lacrosse, girl’s softball, and the spelling Bee, you’re a moron! Baseball is one of the easiest sports to handicap and all you have to do is pick a winner! If your not betting baseball because you don’t like the sport or don’t understand well stop being lazy and learn it! Sportsbooks hate that they have down time during the summer but are not truly upset because baseball is beatable and they like to keep money. Step up to the plate and see what your missing, baseball can turn you a nice profit if you just take the time to learn how to handicap it.
